Just like fashion, website design can be so ‘in’ or so last year. It’s important to keep your website looking fresh for more than just aesthetic appeal though. Owning a website that showcases one of the latest design trends can reflect on your business in a positive light and tell prospective clients that you care about the details. With that in mind, what are the most likely website trends in 2024?

Simplified and to the point

We’ve noticed an increase in website designs that are simplified and more straightforward than previously which is something we anticipate gathering more pace in 2024. The popularity and demand for simpler website designs is likely due to a few factors.

More people than ever visit websites using smaller devices and therefore smaller screens, so it makes sense to tone down designs. And whether we like it or not, our download and TikTok culture is reducing attention spans, which means we want the key info in seconds or we look elsewhere. Of course, a simplified website doesn’t mean having to cut corners on quality.

Parallax scrolling

Parallax scrolling is when the background moves at a slower rate than the foreground – usually text – when scrolling on a website page. This effect gives greater depth to the page and is a cool feature we’re seeing more of. It’s not just a snake oil design feature either as it makes the user experience smoother and can increase engagement with your site visitors. Even if you didn’t know what parallax scrolling was before, you’ve probably encountered it already.

Video backgrounds

One web design feature that has become more popular is flat design which is also present on some of the most visited websites ever, including social media juggernauts. However, the flat design can be brought to life by incorporating video into the background, whereby the video continues to play as the visitor manoeuvres around a web page. This can bring a dull design to life and make the whole website experience more immersive and dynamic. Video is also great for SEO and can reduce bounce rates through greater engagement.

Artistic typography

A special mention should also go to the increasing variation in artistic typography. It’s not just images and videos that are getting more column space on websites but better fonts are as well. This is somewhat down to web designers who work closely with creative types and graphic designers which is something we do here at WEBPRO Creative to make more artistic and bespoke website design a possibility.
