What is a business influencer, why is it important and how can you do it? These are the three important questions we’ll be answering below. From social media and YouTube to podcasting and webinars, learn the basics of business influencing here.

What is a business influencer?

A business influencer is a business with an online following through different mediums, such as on social media, YouTube or through its business website(s). The business then promotes its products and services to its following in the hope some viewers/readers/listeners will make enquiries and purchases.

To some degree, every business is a business influencer because all businesses will strive to convince people to buy their products or services. But there is a difference between a business wanting to promote to its market, and a business that is using specific influencer-style strategies to generate a following to promote to.

The benefits of becoming an industry influencer

Some of the benefits of becoming a business influencer are:

  1. You create new opportunities to generate a following and grow a client base
  2. You position yourself as an authority in your industry by sharing knowledgeable information or tips
  3. You extend your brand awareness
  4. You put a face or voice to your business, which increases consumer trust and builds brand loyalty
  5. The end result of the above is that business influencing can make you more sales and help your business grow

How to become a business influencer

But how can you become a business influencer? What strategies exist to generate a “following” and not just a market share, and how do you best try to guide your following to your products or services?

Below we have outlined three of the best ways to become a business influencer in 2023.

#1: Social media

Social media is probably the first medium you think of when you think of influencers. Businesses can also use their social media channels to generate a following and guide that following to their products and services. The best social media platform to use will probably depend on your target market. For example, if you offer financial services, your target market is more likely to be on conventional social media rather than on emerging platforms like TikTok.

#2: Podcasting and webinars

A more creative way to become an influencer is to host and publish monthly podcasts or webinars. You could use these to discuss current topics in your industry that may be affecting clients. Or to discuss the most asked questions by leads and provide professional insight. One of the best things about podcasting and webinars is that it puts faces and voices to your business, which is so effective at building trust among your following.

#3: Blogging

Blogging is also a fantastic way to build a following and keep people coming back to your website. It’s important to create blogs that provide real value to your readers rather than just blogs that focus solely on promoting the products and services you offer. By offering real value, you can then occasionally direct your readership towards some of your offerings when relevant. You might even offer bonus codes and exclusive discounts that can only be found within your blog posts, thus encouraging readers to return.
